  • well thats a bummer.  I guess I should stop paying for the site then eh?

  • These look awesome.  I love Balboa park at night!!

LaRee.  I don’t know how the k-1 works.  But most cameras create the final HDR as a processed jpg… not a dng.  Of course, DNG files have some really cool abilities, and only Pentax supports the format in-camera, so I would not be surprised if they somehow managed to create an HDR DNG file.

Sorry for the downtime on the website. I’m glad people did not abandon us! My kids now have a fairly permanent activity on Saturday mornings that will likely make it impossible for me to attend and group shoots in the near future. I will continue to do my best to keep the site up-to-date though!!

  • I’m constantly looking for photographers to help me on jobs.  Somehow my mind draws a blank whenever I try to remember who I can ask to help me … I’m part of a group on facebook for video referrals.  and another group for photography referrals in NorCal.  I can’t seem to find one for SoCal (or San Diego specifically).  If I can’t find an exi…[Read more]

  • Nice photo.  I would try Nelson Camera for printing.

I am fortunate to have a 400 pound printer in my kitchen so I do all my own large format printing.  From what I have seen Nelson does a pretty good job and I would bet that they would be accommodating for custom sizes.

I’ve been meaning to take this photo for several years but I never find the time.  Last weekend I had a class out for a night time field trip and I finally got the chance.  Unfortunately the traffic was a little heavy – I would have like fewer north-bound cars… but it came out OK anyway.  Who knows when I might get a chance to try again.

  • Lets go inland… somewhere really HOT.  Just kidding 🙂

I might be able to make it to this one.

  • Is that they image stabilized 16-35.  I have that one and it is quite good.

Depends where you look and if you have a crop sensor. It is also reported as the rule of 500 depending who you ask 🙂

  • You will have to give a review of that camera please. My dad is looking at getting it. Besides a great sensor it would be nice to know how the rest of the camera performs

The top shot was my new Canon 1Dx mark II.   It was ISO 6400 F2.8 for 30 seconds with a 15mm Fisheye.

The second shot was my 5D mark III.  It was shot with the Canon 50mm F1.4.  The exposure was ISO 4000, F2, 20 seconds.  It was a mistake to expose for so long which is why that picture is not as sharp.  There is a “rule” in astr…[Read more]

I went up Mt Palomar with Courtney last night for some milk way shots. It was my first time shooting the Milky Way so I learned a lot about what I should do different next time. Arriving after dark was our first mistake since we did not know the area AT ALL. The shots came out OK but lots of room for improvement.

  • I will be out of town for the next group shoot. Where do you guys want to go?

  • I’m pretty proud of myself. I did a little coding on the site and I think I filter out the messages that show whenever a spam bot signs up for the site. 🙂

FYI – we have the free “captcha” software that makes you do the math equation when you SIGN IN. But to get that captcha to work at the SIGN UP stage I need to pay an extra $100. 99.9% of…[Read more]

  • I won’t make it. Jamie has to work and I’m taking the kids to soccer. Have fun!

  • I like those LaRee. That full fan on the Peacock is nice!

  • Our next group shoot will be on Saturday, June 11th at Balboa Park, which is one of the most widely photographed areas in San Diego.

We will meet at 9am at the large fountain in front of the Reuben H. Fleet […]
