San Diego Digital Photography Group

Welcome to San Diego Digital Photograpy Group

San Diego Digital SLR Photography Group is an informal camera club of digital photographers in San Diego California. Our aim is to encourage DSLR owners to get the most from their cameras by joining a community of like-minded individuals who love their art and enjoy sharing their knowledge of photography.

We meet for regular photography group shoots on the second Saturday of each month at locations around San Diego County. The venue is usually announced on the web site around two weeks before the scheduled date. Images from the DSLR group shoots are shared on this site for all members to enjoy in a non-competitive way.

Got Canon? Use the Picture Style Editor.

So you got your nifty Canon dSLR.  Riped the box open, charged the batteries and started shooting;  Woo Hoo. What did you do with that utilities disk that came in the box?  Throw it in the drawer?  There are many cool, useful things (and some to avoid) on that disk.  One of them is the Picture Style editor

With the Picture Style editor you can easily go beyond the in camera styles.  Even if you do not use "Picture Styles" you are still using the Standard picture style whether you shoot RAW or JPG.

If you shoot JPG you are done; the style you shoot with is the style you get.  If you shoot RAW you can change the Style after the fact.

Our site has a Journal that kind of keeps track of the things each of us do on the site.  Actions like forum posts, image uploads, articles added and more are tracked.  Combining each users journal entries is what becomes the "Social" aspect of the site.

When a registered user, that is logged in to the site, clicks on their user name at the upper right of any page; they are taken to the Activity Feed page. Initially this Activity Feed is for the member.  On this page we can also navigate to edit our profile, find members and add them as friend.  Once members are added as friends we can see their activity feeds.

Site Update

As you have already noticed, I have made a few changes to the site.  Trying to bring it up to this decade with HTML 5, CSS3 and changed the appearance with a responsive skin.

If any thing can go wrong...

In the process of upgrading the core code to insure we have the latest security patches...you guessed it; it did not go as planned.  After two failed upgrage attempts and the third being a kinda/sorta upgrade; I ended up going in and finished the upgrade manually. The core is updated to the lastest version.

There are two issues that I know of:

  • New Registrations throw and error when the user submits their registration. The new account is created and we can authorize, so please disregard the error.
  • The "My Articles" on the activity feed is wonky in that it does not show a users articles.

FAQ
No you do not have to have a dSLR to hang out with us.
That's entirerly up to you.  Lunch tends to be more social then talking photograpy.
You don't have to be, but we do do create a album for members to share their photos from the monthly group shoot.
